buckling of viscoelastic composite plates using the finite strip method

Effect of the Fiber Reinforcement on the Low Energy Impact Behavior of Fabric Reinforced Resin Matrix Composite Materials

The influence of the fiber used as reinforcement in resin matrix composite materials submitted to repeated low energy impacts is analyzed. The aramid, glass and carbon fiber composites were submitted to drop weight tests from 0.5m and from 1m. The number of impact events necessary to cause failure was recorded, and the fracture characteristics of each composite were analyzed by optical microsco...

Continuous-fiber preform reinforcement of dental resin composite restorations.

OBJECTIVES Direct-filling resin composites are used in relatively small restorations and are not recommended for large restorations with severe occlusal-stresses. The aim of this study was to reinforce composites with fiber preforms, and to investigate the effects of layer thickness and configurations on composite properties. It was hypothesized that fiber preforms would significantly increase ...

Effects of composite lay-up configuration and thickness on the damage self-sensing behavior of carbon fiber polymer-matrix composite

The lay-up configuration (unidirectional, crossply and quasi-isotropic) and thickness (8–24 laminae) affect the damage self-sensing characteristics of continuous carbon fiber epoxy-matrix composites. The damage is by drop impact directed at the top surface of the laminate. The oblique resistance (i.e., resistance at an angle between the longitudinal and through-thickness directions) is an effec...

Comparison of Compressive Properties Between Va-cuum Infusion and Hand Lay-Up Method Toward Bal-sa Core Sandwich Composites

The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of fabrication methods on the com-pressive properties of sandwich composites using both experimental work and numerical simulations. Two types of sandwich composites with E-glass/Kevlar/polyester resin facings and End-grain balsa wood as core have been produced by vacuum infusion processing (VIP) and hand-lay up (HL) method. Compression tests on...
